Heart Sewing Case

I mentioned ages ago (before Christmas) that I had made a present for my friend Stella (Stella's blog) and I said that I would post a picture of the present once it was finished and here it is.

Well I had a few problems with it! I used a wet glue and unfortunately this showed through on the material in some places.  You will see where I appliqued a flower shape on the inside to cover an area that I wasn't happy with.  Needless to say I didn't feel happy giving this to Stella when I wasn't totally pleased with the end result, so I bought a different present.  Well I finally finished it off and gave it to Stella last Friday evening.  (photos courtesy of Stella - thank you).

I first made one of these cases quite a while ago with my friend Hazel who had bought the kits (pattern and cardboard) for a project for three friends.  We had so much fun over several evenings making these and I must admit I never thought that I would make another one.  That was until I saw the kit when I was in a patchwork shop in Bedfordshire and thought it would be a lovely Christmas present for Stella.  Better late than never I guess.

Here is a really simple card that I made last week. I think this could be used for many different occasions.

That's it for now.  Keep warm and thanks for looking.

Did you miss me?

Sorry not been around much but there has been a lot going on and sadly to say most of it has not been good!

For some very odd reason my button to allow me to browse my photos had magically reappeared!  How does that happen?  My hubby always says that I must have pressed a button and I know for sure I didn't.  But I am very glad to say it has now, just as magically, reappeared.

Here is the 100th birthday card picture that I wanted to post when I noticed I had a problem.

Another note to self - practise taking better pictures and getting them straight!.  Saying that I cannot take any credit/blame for the next picture.  This one was taken by a friend on her mobile.

As most of you know my friend Hazel and I raise money for The Meningitis Trust which is a charity very close to both our hearts, and for me especially at this moment in time.  Anyway before Christmas we spent a lot of time embroidering on to white felt with red cotton to make hanging decorative hearts.  They proved extremely popular and my friend Jacqui bought all three designs.  Now I know you can't see them very clearly but here they are forming part of Jacqui's Christmas decorations.  All in all we vwere ery pleased with them and we sold everyone we made.  Next year we will be making more, so if you want to get your order in early feel free :-).  We will also be making lots of other things to sell to raise funds so watch this space.

It's good to be back.  Thanks for looking.

My friend Nona asked me to make a special card for her aunt who will be 100 next week. The card is to be from Nona's mum and the lady who will be 100 is her sister.

Both ladies live in a residential home and whilst the 100 year old lady is in very good health both physically and mentally, Nona's mum is not so well.

I do hope that Nona's aunt has a lovely birthday and likes the card from her sister.

Now that is so annoying I cannot upload the photo! The menu is not giving me the option to find my photos - anyone have any ideas what has happened?

I will try and make this work and post the card at a later stage.

Well today I have heard that I am returning to work next week on a phased return. Now that didn't take long did it? :-)

Thanks for looking and apologies about the lack of photo.

RIP Sophie Lunn

Today is a very sad day.  My best friend had to have her little dog Sophie put to sleep!  My thoughts are with my friend Pat at this very sad and hard time.

I've known Sophie since I went with Pat to choose her as a little bundle of fluff over 11 years ago and I will miss her so much.

Sophie had been such a little fighter but today things just became too much for her little body.  I'm just truly thankful that this final act of love can be carried out so quickly and with such respect.

Passport Photos - Arghhhh!

OMG they say the camera never lies but I certainly hope that is wrong!  We went into Snappy Snaps yesterday to have our photos taken as we need to renew our passports.  Had to wait for 20 minutes for photos to be processed so went for a coffee and cake (best part).  Then we went back to collect the photos.  Evidently because I had my usual large(ish) earrings in and my mouth slightly open they had to redo mine.  Allen went off to Tescos and I waited,  well when I was given the photos I nearly passed out on the spot!  I thought I was wearing quite well but if that photo is anything to go by..................  Allen's is perfect.  How can that be?  Men don't wear make up or do anything special with their hair.

Needless to say this picture will not be the one that I use and will never be seen by anyone ever!  I am considering having my hair and make up done and then going for another shot.  Vain or what I know but this will be on my passport for the next 10 years.

Why aren't you allowed to smile in a passport photo?  Does anyone know?

Anyway feeling better now although my voice has still not fully come back.  Allen is enjoying the quiet. :-)

Haven't really been doing very much apart from finishing off a couple of small presents.  Really need to get my act together.

That's it for now.  Thanks for reading.

It's beginning to feel a bit like Christmas......

Well prepare to be impressed - Christmas trees up, house decorated and all feeling very festive! Can't quite believe it myself - quick pinch - it's OK it's not a dream.

Still have a few gifts to buy.  You know the ones.  The people you have no idea what to buy.  Hoping for a flash of inspiration some time soon.......

Allen and I went to Earls Court on Saturday night and the tournament was very, very good, although the smoke from the cannons played havoc with my sore throat.  Something like this tournament does make you think that a lot of people are going to be away from their loved ones this Christmas.  Note to self - count my blessings!

Things finally seem to be moving on the work front, so watch this space!

That's all for now.  Thank you for looking.

Cardigan in Action!

Here is a picture of the little baby cardigan I knitted for a friend's baby daughter - Krishni.

Doesn't she look gorgeous?  I'm really pleased with the result!

Allen and I are going to Earls Court tonight to see the British Military Tournament.  Just hope the throat holds out!

Odds & Sods

What a great night at Odds and Sods last night.  Really had a fun time and it was great to have all the members there.  Stella, as usual, provided the pass the parcel and Hazel produced a sewing project for everyone.

The Christmas cards that members made to be swapped were gorgeous and hopefully I will have some photos to post at some stage soon.

Perfect evening - fish and chips or pizza + mushy peas mmmm.

Evidently we had snow this morning (big flakes) and I missed it!

Today Allen had a days holiday and took me out shopping supposedly for Christmas presents!  I come home with a pair of boots and a pair of jeans :-), but we did manage to buy some pressies as well.

Have a really sore throat and just hope I am not sickening for something!

That's all for now but thanks for looking.

More Physio Today

More torture this morning, but it will be worth it in the end I'm sure!  Couldn't get an appointment for next week so will have to work extra hard on the exercises at home.

Had a really good evening last night at the quiz night at The Sportsman.  People were very generous and lots of money was raised.  Not quite sure how much at the moment but a very good event.  Ellie and Dan worked very hard and it paid off in a very successful evening.

We didn't win the quiz but a few of the team were lucky in the raffle and I made a bid for and won a beautiful stained glass window hanger.  All in all a good night!

That's it for today and thank you for looking.

Another Lazy Day!

I can't believe how lazy I have been today!  The most I have done is a little bit of ironing and walked Mattie (with another walk due shortly).  Just can't seem to get my head in gear.  I get quite cross with myself because there is so much that I should be doing.  Hey ho there is always tomorrow.

I've been kidding myself that I'm saving my energy for tonight for a quiz at The Sportsman pub, but not sure that I will be a lot of help, still there will be alcohol!

For those who checked my blog yesterday - Sophie is home for the time being.  The vet was very nice and supportive but said that really there is not a lot more he can do for her.  At least today she has been eating which has been a real problem.  I'm just keeping everything crossed.

That's it today and thank you for looking.

Sophie

Today I have spent the day keeping my friend Pat company whilst her little dog Sophie is in the hospital.  Sophie is quite an elderly lady now and has quite a few problems.  We are going to pick her up later today and hopefully will have results of blood tests etc to see what is going on.

This is a picture of Sophie on holiday in October 2008.  I can tell you that she was not impressed with the sun glasses!

That's it for today.  Thank you for looking.

Memories

Today would have been my mum's birthday (bless her heart).  She died on 1 August 1997 at the age of 79. I miss her terribly, particularly her sense of humour.  We spent so much time together just laughing.

Sorry to be miserable but I feel she needs to be mentioned.

Anyway the birthday card I was making yesterday, well I wasn't happy with it and took it apart this afternoon.  So now I'm left with a decoupaged topper and a card base that I've decimated.  I'm seriously thinking about buying a card!

That's it for today.  Thanks for looking.

Lazy Sunday afternoon

Have had a lovely day today.  Nice walk in the woods at lunch time.  Thank goodness the cold weather has frozen the ground so neither Mattie or I got too messy!

This afternoon I spent making a birthday card for a very special friend.  Must admit it didn't turn out quite how I wanted but I think it will be OK.  I will check it again tomorrow and see if I'm happy with  it or if I am going to start again.  If I am happy with the result I will post a picture.

Also worked on an idea that I have had for little presents for certain people.  More on that at a later date as well.

Went for another walk this evening and Mattie met one of his best friends - Missie - and they had a wonderful time.  Wish I could bottle that energy.  Bumped into someone from work - it's certainly a small worlds.  She was out walking her dog as well.

Lovely dinner cooked by Allen and a nice glass of beer.  Who could ask for anything more?

Hope you have all enjoyed your weekend and thanks for looking.

Christmas started.....

How smug am I? Christmas cards done! Two presents wrapped. This is the most organised I think I've ever been - long may it continue. But of course I haven't finished my present shopping and ideas are in very short supply. Never mind still really pleased that I started on 1 December!

That's it for today - written so many cards my hand aches :-) Thanks for looking.

It's always nice when......

you're meant to be just meeting a friend for a coffee and you end up having a nice dinner and a couple of drinks in the pub as well!  Very nice - thank you Susan.

Busy day today but not a lot to show for it (again).  Can't quite believe that it's Friday again.  It's amazing how quickly the time goes by when you're not doing very much!

Must knuckle down and make a special birthday card over the weekend - I'm running out of time.

That's it for today.  Thanks for looking.
